Steam Next Fest October 2026: Five Demos Worth Your Time
Steam Next Fest is live right now and runs through October 26 at 10 AM PDT, which means you have five days left to crawl the demo aisles for free. Here are five picks to get your fest off on the right foot. This batch skews toward the dungeon-crawl brain, with one detective detour and one castle to build. All five demos are free, and all five are worth a wishlist while the fest is still running.
Ignite the Depths: The Co-op Dungeon Crawler That Takes You Back in Time

The pitch is an atmospheric dark-fantasy PvE dungeon crawler set in a sprawling, hand-crafted labyrinth, playable solo or in online co-op with up to four players. And the key phrase here is hand-crafted: this is a designed dungeon, not a procedural one, which is a rarer and more expensive promise in the co-op crawl space. It also has a really interesting retro visual style that makes it feel like a long lost PS1 game, although this could never have run on the PS1.
The full game is a 2027 release from SK Studios and Ytopia, so the demo will need to hold you over until the new year. That is exactly what Next Fest is for. If your group burned out on the last co-op ARPG and needs something to wishlist for next year, this is the one.

Warhammer Survivors: The Official Grimdark Bullet-Heaven

Auroch Digital, the studio behind Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, is making the official Warhammer bullet-heaven, and the roster is the whole pitch: over 40 champions drawn from both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar, dropped into arenas that fill with weapons, upgrades, and absurd quantities of projectiles until your chosen champion is a small dot in a very large storm. The formula hardly needs an introduction anymore, but the Warhammer skin does real work here, and a studio that already understands grimdark pacing is the right pick for it. The demo is available now and the full game lands on November 10, less than three weeks after the fest ends. If you have ever wanted to know exactly how much screen-filling destruction a Space Marine can survive, the answer is one free download away.
Demo status: playable now | Game: November 10, 2026 | Warhammer Survivors on Steam
House of the Lost: Revived: A Roguelike Adventure Through a Haunted House

House of the Lost: Revived is a top-down action roguelike built around a simple loop; each run is a new house, a new build, and a new chance to craft increasingly absurd weapons before the House gets you. It's a throwback to the old school gaming style of clearing rooms, dodging traps, and learning from every death. The demo lets you take on the first two levels of the house and face off against the first boss, either solo or with a friend in local coop. You can't beat clearing rooms with a buddy by your side.
The mobile version is live now, free to try with one purchase to own, and the Steam version arrives this October with the demo already playable.

The Wolf Among Us Remastered: Bigby Returns Three Days After the Fest Ends

The timing on this one is almost comically tight. Telltale's remaster of The Wolf Among Us launches October 29, three days after Next Fest closes, and the demo unlocked on fest day one. If you have played the original, you know the shape: a dark detective thriller where folklore is real, violence is chilling, and every choice has consequences, with Bigby Wolf investigating a murder in a Fabletown that never fully trusts its sheriff. The remaster brings updated lighting, animation, and environments, plus a black-and-white Noir Mode that leans all the way into the detective-film DNA. If you never played it, the demo is the cheapest possible way to understand why this one is remembered as one of Telltale's best. If you did play it, Noir Mode alone is worth the reinstall.

Stronghold 4: The Classic Medieval Strategy Game Makes a Comeback

Firefly Studios is going back to the green roots of the series with Stronghold 4, a narrative prequel to the 2001 original: build the fortress, but also feed and equip the people inside it, weather the seasons when snow slows your crop growth and rain hampers your archers, and then hold the walls when the siege arrives. New castle pieces give you more control over fortification, bigger maps give sieges room to get properly dramatic, and it all just looks great in motion.
The demo is limited to the skirmish mode, but that is still more than enough to have a great time. The full game arrives December 7, so if you see something you like you won't have to wait long for the full adventure..

Next Fest FAQ
When does Steam Next Fest October 2026 end? October 26 at 10 AM PDT. After that the storefront hub comes down and the wishlisting surge is over.
Are all the demos free? Yes. Every Next Fest demo is a free download; there is no catch and no discount scheme attached.
Do the demos disappear after the fest? Some do, some stay up for months. Warhammer Survivors and Stronghold 4 have been up since spring and summer; the fest-day unlocks are the ones most likely to vanish on October 26. If you want a demo, play it this week.
Why does wishlisting during the fest matter? Studios see wishlist spikes in real time during fest week, and Valve's storefront algorithms reward the momentum. A wishlist during Next Fest is worth more to a small studio than the same click a month later.
