Today's State of Play was a treat, showcasing over 30 minutes of thrilling gameplay from 007: First Light, IO Interactive’s bold reimagining of James Bond’s origin story. The video dives into Bond’s first mission as an MI6 recruit, blending high-octane action, stealth, and cinematic flair that echoes both the classic Bond films and modern action-adventure games like Uncharted.
The gameplay begins with a young James Bond, voiced by Patrick Gibson, driving a Jaguar to the Grand Carpathian hotel in pursuit of rogue agent 009. After being told to wait in the car, Bond decides to go off script and start tailing a suspicious blonde bellhop. Using his Q gadgets to highlight interactive elements, Bond employs creative stealth tactics, like distracting guards with a water hose or igniting leaves with a lighter, to infiltrate the hotel. After a look at the impressive crowds and, conversations with NPCs, the sequence shifts to a heart-pounding car chase, with Bond dodging obstacles and leaping off cliffs to pursue 009, culminating in a chaotic gunfight at an airstrip and a sequence that feels ripped right out of a Bond film, but that is still totally unique to the franchise.

From covert infiltration to explosive car chases, the gameplay highlights IO’s signature mix of player choice and intense set pieces, and we can't wait to see more before it's release on March 27, 2026
