Bungie's Marathon Locks March 5th Release: Pre-Orders are Now Live
Bungie has made it official. Their newest creation, Marathon, will launch on March 5. The team-based PvPvE extraction shooter drops on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam for $39.99 Standard Edition, with a Deluxe Edition packing cosmetics for $60. You can also get your hands on a swanky Collector's Edition, but only direct from the Bungie store.
Check out the trailer below for a look at the tense gunplay and neon soaked visuals that set this one apart from the crowd.
It's Felt Like a Marathon
Marathon's road to release hasn't been easy. Initially unveiled in 2023 as a neon extraction twist on the '90s classic, it faced instant backlash from fans. Because Marathon has such a storied history as the shooter for Mac gamers, it wasn't easy to see it transformed into yet another online-only extraction shooter.
The initial Alpha tests didn't help matters. The game didn't feel great, the art style seemed unfinished, and combat didn't have the feel that players expect from a Bungie shooter. Thankfully, Bungie and Sony were able to do the right thing and delay the game from a Fall 2025 release into 2026.
Putting it All On the Line

Since the delay, we've had some reasons for hope. Bungie released a ViDoc in December that unveiled the fixes including a darker, grittier tone honoring originals; proximity chat; solo/duo queues; beefed visuals/fidelity; raid-like endgame; factions; loot/customization overhaul; and four maps at launch. Playtests since April have been much more positive, and it sounds like they may have found the right combination to make Marathon into something special.
Thankfully we won't have to wait much longer to find out if they nailed it, March 5th isn't that far away. You can check out the Official Preorder Announcement or, if you're interested in learning more about Marathon, check out the December ViDoc we have embedded below. Here's hoping this is Bungie at it's finest once again.
