Resident Evil Showcase: Requiem's Dual Protagonists and Bloody Action Steal the Show
Capcom's Resident Evil Showcase hit yesterday and packed a ton of details in just a 12 minute video. The event spotlighted the eagerly awaited Resident Evil: Requiem (RE9) with juicy gameplay reveals, story hints, and a flood of merch drops. Helmed by director Koshi Nakanishi of RE7 and RE Village fame, it locked in a February 27th release for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch 2, and even GeForce NOW from day one. While we would have loved to get a demo release, the clever dual-protagonist setup and fresh mechanics make this look like a great new addition to the series.
Requiem's Killer Hook: Grace and Leon Working Together
Resident Evil: Requiem doesn't limit itself to one type of gameplay, it fuses pure survival horror with pulse-pounding action. You'll swap between FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and the iconic DSO agent Leon S. Kennedy as the story progressest. Grace starts things off in a crumbling, undead-infested sanatorium, where stealth, slim resources, and gut-wrenching decisions channel the raw terror of RE7 and RE2. Leon flips the script with his RE4 Remake-style over-the-shoulder shooting and savage close-quarters brawls. Both characters let you toggle between first-person and third-person camera angles so you can choose how you want to experience the nightmare.
Fresh clips highlight Grace's gruesome crafting abilities. She can draw zombie blood to craft countermeasures and gadgets on the fly and her "Requiem" revolver serves as a frantic Hail Mary in tight spots. Leon, the action hero we love, parries attacks with a new hatchet, blasts limbs to hobble enemies, and snatches enemy weapons like chainsaws for some over the top gory finishers.

The zombies also get a creepy upgrade with "pre-death fixations." You might find a janitor who obsessively buffs mirrors, a chef that dices veggies forever, or a singer belting out an eternal tune. And if you pay attention to these 'ticks' you may be able to sneak past without a fight. We also got a new plot drop toward the end of the video about the "Elpis" virus, linking Grace's quest to avenge her mom Alyssa's murder with Leon's mission for some possible tension between our heroes..
Merch Madness and Edition Breakdowns

The showcase turned into a shopper's paradise halfway through. Hamilton dropped limited-edition watches, themed around Grace and Leon, that match their in-game wearables. Leon even scores a slick 3D-printed Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT ride. Look out for 1/6-scale figures dropping in fall 2026, a Grace amiibo this summer, a sleek gunmetal Switch 2 Pro Controller, and global orchestra tours celebrating RE's 30th anniversary.
Game editions keep it simple yet tempting: Standard for the basics, Deluxe with extra cosmetics and filters, and a Premium Steelbook for collectors. Pre-orders unlock Grace's "Apocalypse" skin. Switch 2 owners get bundles with RE7 and Village Gold Editions, while Epic Store buyers, as always, bag free Fortnite crossovers.
Another Thriller in One of Gaming's Longest Running Franchises

Requiem masterfully mixes RE's golden eras into a must-grab February release. This version combines the two types of RE gameplay we love, tense horror with Grace, and full rampage action with Leon. Throw in the fact you will be able to play this just about anywhere, from PS5 and PC to Switch 2 and Geforce Now, and you've got a top-tier release to get you into the Spring.
