New Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Trailer Drops: Samus Slides into Action One Month from Launch

Eight years after its 2017 announcement, and a full development reboot by Retro Studios, Metroid Prime 4 is almost upon us. Today Nintendo dropped a new trailer that gives us a look at several of the new locations and enemies Samus will face in her new adventure. We also got a look at her doing the 'Akira slide' on her recently revealed motorcycle, and that's just plain awesome.

New Suits, New Locations, Same Great Action

The trailer thrusts us into the suit of Samus Aran on the mysterious planet Viewros, once home to an ancient race, now overrun by grotesque alien creatures. Samus blasts through several new enemies, from ice-wolves and multi-armed aliens to advanced robot warriors. We also get to see her 'in the suit' reaction to new environmental hazards like blazing desert heat and ice swept heights. I have always loved how the Prime series makes Samus feel fully present and embodied in the game world, and it is great to see them leaning into that again with these reactions..

Samus Has Never Looked Better

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Hostile Aliens

The trailer also gave us a great look at the atmospheric visuals Metroid Prime 4 has to offer. While the game was originally developed for the Nintendo Switch, and will likely be the best looking game ever released on the system, Retro has also optimized the game to run even better on Switch 2. Based on previous updates we are likely looking at 4K resolution at 60fps, or 120 fps at 1080p in Switch 2 docked mode. It is going to be a sight to behold.

We're only 30 days out from release, so hopefully this is just the beginning of more updates from Nintendo as we draw closer to Metroid Prime 4 Beyond's release on December 4th. If you haven't yet, you can pre-order the physical version of the game using this link to help support us at GameMinr. And don't worry if you haven't upgraded to the Switch 2 yet, the Switch 2 cart will work in both systems so you can future proof your purchase.

Metroid Prime 4 has been a long time coming, but I can't wait to get my hands on it. Welcome back Samus!
